A Weekend Getaway in a French Chateaux

Nur and I found ourselves in Paris with both of our flights back home postponed unexpectedly. So we decided, let’s make an adventure out of it. We packed up our kids in a van, and drove ourselves just an hour out of Paris to a most beautiful getaway. We came upon a magnificent Chateaux, once owned privately by none other than Catherine Deneuve for 35 years.

Today it has been taken over by hotel management and some modern facilities have been added. The property lays alongside a moving river where swans spontaneously swim past. A wide lawn with a fresh pool to cool down in the summer months.  A wide lawn where at 4pm a bell is rung to welcome us all in for the classic French Goûter – an open kitchen with a large selection of freshly bakes cakes, cookies, and madeleines with tea or coffee to choose from.

Bikes lined up to take at your will, padel and tennis courts, a potting shed, and a lovely lake to picnic around. The evenings were spent having summer dinners in the garden surrounded by fruit trees and ended in their den playing cards, backgammon, or chess. This last minute trip was so delightful and three days we will never forget and hopefully we will be back one day.

Hotel name – Le Domaine de Primard.
