Jet Setting With Henry Clarke

Specific images when seen immediately take you away to somewhere exotic. Henry Clarke’s images he took for Vogue during the 1950s in different locations evoke these feelings. Clarke started his career as a window dresser in San Fransisco, then he moved to New York to become an accessories assistant at Vogue. He witnessed the changing face of fashion during the postwar era. During Diana Vreeland’s reign at vogue, Henry became one of the main photographers of the magazine. As she made more exotic locations accessible, he started photographing features for the magazine that at times were 20 pages. He continued his career in British, American, and French Vogue until the late ’70s.
